Five for ImPressing: Sophie Tarca

Name, Surname, Age and how long have you been taking photos?

Sophie Tarca, 27. I have been taking photos for close to 5 years now.

What cameras do you work with?

I began shooting with a Pentax K1000 that I bought for $20 from a school in 2008 (they were tearing down their darkroom to make way for a computer lab). I think even after all this time it is still my favourite camera to use, although I haven’t shot with it for awhile. Currently my Nikon N55 is getting the most use.

What does photography mean to you?

It is a way to document and share an event that has moved me in some way.

What are your favourite subjects?

Mother nature. Tiny moments.

What else do you do besides photography?

Photography can be an expensive pastime! Fortunately I have a boring retail job that helps fund my habit. In my spare time I run Lost World Vintage, a vintage clothing and accessories store (http://www.facebook.com/LostWorldVintage). I also love cooking, crafting, hiking and drinking sangria! 

What does it distinguishes you, in your opinion, from other photographers?

Quiet riots of colour.

Which artistic influences affect your works?

William Eggleston is my number one influence, without a doubt. I love the way he finds beauty in the everyday things that most people would consider mundane.

What is your way to shoot? Do you imagine the whole scene and prepare the set, or relies on oestrus of the moment? What are your future plans?

Nothing that I have shot has ever really been planned ahead of time. I just try to take a camera with me everywhere I go so that I can capture what’s already there. As for future plans, I’d like to do more portraiture work.

What is the photo you'd dream to take?

It sounds very cliché, but I’d love to visit and photograph the Northern Lights! I’d also like to return to Central Australia (where I am originally from) and do some work there.

Nome, cognome, età e da quanto scatta fotografie?

Sophie Tarca, 27 anni. Ho iniziato a fotografare cinque anni fa. 

La sua attrezzatura?

Ho cominciato a scattare con una Pentax K1000 che ho comprato per 20 dollari da una scuola nel 2008 (stavano smantellando la camera oscura per far posto ad un laboratorio di informatica). Penso che anche dopo tutto questo tempo è tuttora la mia macchina fotografica preferita, anche se non la uso da un po'. Attualmente la mia Nikon N55 è quella più utilizzata. 

Cos’è la fotografia per lei? Quanto l’obiettivo influenza la vita di tutti i giorni?

E' un modo per documentare e condividere un evento che mi ha provocato sentimenti in qualche modo.

I suoi soggetti preferiti?

Madre natura. Gli attimi.

Cosa fa quando non scatta foto?

La fotografia può essere un passatempo costoso! Per fortuna ho un lavoro noioso al dettaglio che aiuta a finanziare la mia passione. Nel mio tempo libero porto avanti Lost World Vintage, un negozio di abbigliamento vintage e accessori. Mi piace anche cucinare, l'artigianato, escursioni e bere sangria!

Cosa la distingue, a suo giudizio, da altri fotografi? 

Le silenziose ribellione di colore. 

I suoi lavori di quali influenze artistiche risentono? 

William Eggleston è la mia influenza numero uno, senza dubbio. Amo il modo in cui egli trova la bellezza nelle cose di tutti i giorni che la maggior parte delle persone considerano banali.

Qual è il suo modo di scattare? Si immagina tutta la scena e predispone il set, oppure si affida all’estro del momento? Quali sono i  suoi progetti futuri?

Nulla di ciò che ho girato è mai veramente pianificato. Cerco solo di portare una macchina fotografica con me ovunque io vada in modo che possa catturare ciò che c'è già. Per quanto riguarda i progetti per il futuro, mi piacerebbe fare più lavoro di ritrattistica.

Qual è la foto che sogna di scattare? 

Sembra molto un cliché, ma mi piacerebbe fotografare l'aurora boreale! Mi piacerebbe anche tornare in Australia centrale (di cui sono originaria) e fare qualche lavoro lì.
